three-screen video 06’12”, 06’00”, 05’31” Rouen, France 2024 with children from the visual arts workshop at the André Malraux Center in Rouen with support from Virginie Bobin and Braïma Injaï
As part of the Grand Mare neighborhood's food art project, I created this video. Grand Mare neighborhood is located in the city of Rouen, where my school, ESADHaR, is also situated. Unlike the community environment in the city center, the residents here are primarily immigrants. In my interactions with them, I constantly see reflections of myself: we face the same challenges with language, food, and culture.
In the neighborhood, I met these children at Braïma Injaï's painting workshop. We connected through food, sharing our stories about it. For a child, they may not remember many other things from their home country, but food remains an indelible memory.
Eating is such an everyday activity. The things that gradually change our perception of food are like whispers, happening subtly between awareness and unawareness.
